Castellammare, a dramatic turn of events in the Fontana brothers' trial: the dock extortion charges collapse.

In the trial over the "San Gennaro" docks in Castellammare di Stabia, the defense team slammed the testimony of the DDA's key witness: he had accused the brothers of extortion "since they were six years old." The hearing of the injured party, Francesco Paolo Valanzano, known as "Ciccio," was postponed until January 16th.

The trial against the Fontana brothers, accused of alleged extortion against the manager of the “San Gennaro” docks in Castellammare di Stabia, Francesco Paolo Valanzano, known as “Ciccio”, continues before Panel D of the Torre Annunziata Court.

Today, Fontana Catello, one of the key witnesses on the list of the Naples DDA public prosecutor, was heard.

However, it was the intense cross-examination by the defense team—composed of criminal lawyers Catello Di Capua, Alfonso Piscino, Giovanni Filosa, Raffaele Pucci, and Olga Coda—that overturned the course of the hearing.

Precisely under the pressing questions of the lawyer Coda, sensational contradictions emerged from the declarant, to the point of making his accusatory account appear completely unreliable.

The witness, in fact, had gone so far as to claim that the brothers had engaged in extortion against Valanzano "since they were six years old," a circumstance that, when put to the test of logical and legal scrutiny, ended up undermining the overall credibility of his testimony.

A reconstruction that the defense defined as "abnormal" and incompatible with any real dynamics of criminal management of the territory.

The proceedings against the so-called "Fasani" are part of the broader and more controversial issue of the management of the docks in Castellammare di Stabia, a history of contracts, takeovers, internal tensions, and ongoing friction between operators in the sector.

In this context, the trial itself is raising – according to the defense – well-founded doubts about the original investigative reconstructions, as well as the actual "ambiguity" of some employees who were initially mistaken for extortionists and later revealed themselves, perhaps, to be simply dock workers.

Following today's hearing, the panel ordered the trial adjourned until January 16, when the defendant, Francesco Paolo Valanzano, is scheduled to be heard.

His testimony, expected to be one of the key moments of the trial, will clarify whether the management of the "San Gennaro" docks is truly an extortion scheme or simply a long series of misunderstandings and investigative biases.
