Naples – A bullet to the stomach, a desperate run through the night, and a body abandoned on the asphalt, just meters from safety. The ambush that took place in recent hours near the historic center, where the line between life and death was drawn by a single warhead, is tinged with mystery.
The victim is Francesco Muscariello, a 40-year-old originally from the Marianella neighborhood, a face already known to law enforcement for a criminal record ranging from property crimes to drug dealing.
The alarm was raised around 2:00 a.m., when emergency doctors at Cardarelli Hospital issued a red code for a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Muscariello did not arrive in an ambulance: according to initial reports, he was literally "dumped" near the hospital from a vehicle that then fled into the darkness, disappearing within seconds.
The 40-year-old's condition immediately appeared critical. Hospitalized with a guarded prognosis, he was stabilized by paramedics and, fortunately, his life is not in danger. Despite his delicate clinical condition, officers from the Arenella Police Station, who are in charge of the investigation, attempted an initial interview directly in his hospital bed. The result, however, was a wall of silence.
Muscariello claimed he remembered nothing of the incident, attributing his amnesia to the shock he experienced. This reticence, in criminal jargon, often suggests a desire not to cooperate or fear of retaliation.
Investigators now find themselves piecing together a complex puzzle. It's unclear where the attack took place, nor how many hitmen opened fire. The lead favored by investigators leads directly to drug dealing circles, suggesting a settling of scores or a bloody "slip."
The next few hours will be crucial: the police are acquiring footage from surveillance cameras installed both in the Cardarelli area—to identify the car that transported the injured man—and at potential locations of the ambush, to try to put a face and name to whoever pulled the trigger.

The article describes a very terrible event, but I don't quite understand why Muscariello doesn't remember anything. It's strange that in such a serious situation, someone doesn't know what happened. I hope the police find those responsible.
