Naples – A dramatic accident occurred in a public housing project in Barra, where the attic of an apartment in a residential building suddenly collapsed. The collapse occurred in the late afternoon. Tragedy was averted thanks to chance or a timely alarm; no occupants were injured.

The home, shared by two separate families, was immediately declared uninhabitable, necessitating a complete evacuation. The affected families found temporary, independent accommodation, staying with relatives while a permanent solution was found.

The incident dramatically refocuses attention on the state of conservation of the city's public housing stock. The City of Naples, through its subsidiary Napoli Servizi, promptly arranged for a technical inspection.

The primary objective is twofold: to secure the area to prevent further collapse and to begin structural restoration work as quickly as possible.

Simultaneously with the technical response, the municipal Social Services network was mobilized. Social workers were alerted to provide the necessary and urgent support to the two displaced families, anticipating a period of housing uncertainty, and to assess any potential need for logistical and financial support.

The investigation will now have to clarify the precise causes of the structural failure, to determine whether it was due to age, construction defects or a lack of maintenance.
