The Prefecture of Naples is keeping a close eye on the incident that occurred on the night between December 11th and 12th, when several shots were fired in Piazza Carolina, in the heart of the Chiaia district.

This is a serious incident, although it did not cause any injuries or damage, and the State Police are currently investigating the incident in depth.

The investigation is also focusing on analyzing images recorded by the numerous video surveillance cameras in the area, one of the busiest in the city, especially during the evening and night hours. This sensitive urban context has prompted the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, to order an immediate strengthening of prevention and control services in the area.

The measures implemented include frequent passages and prolonged stops by law enforcement patrols, as well as a permanent surveillance service in the square, provided on a rotating basis by crews from the State Police and the Carabinieri.

Added to this is the contribution of the Italian Army as part of the "Safe Roads" operation, with a patrol operating 24 hours a day in nearby Piazza Trieste e Trento.

These measures, as assured by the Prefecture, will be further intensified in view of the upcoming Christmas holidays, a period that traditionally sees a significant increase in the number of residents and tourists in the central areas of the capital.

The Prefect expressed his full confidence in the work of the judiciary and the police: "I am certain that the ongoing investigations will quickly identify, as often happens, those responsible for this serious incident. The institutions are present on the ground: we will never take a step back in protecting the safety of citizens."

The situation remains under constant monitoring, with ongoing coordination between all relevant institutional bodies. Similar measures to strengthen security have been implemented in other areas of the city, ensuring adequate safety throughout the urban fabric.

Reading about the incident in Piazza Carolina, I wondered why the police needed such forceful intervention. Although no one was injured, the situation appears to be concerning for public safety.
