Naples – Line 6 is no longer an unfinished project: the City of Naples and Hitachi Rail have signed a major contract worth approximately €630 million for the new depot-workshop on Via Campegna and the station of the same name, the final step in transforming the light rail system into a true high-frequency artery.
The new hub will be built on 110.000 square meters next to the Campi Flegrei railway station and will become the technological heart of the line: a maintenance workshop, train depot, advanced control room, and operations hub. These facilities will increase train frequencies to 4,5 minutes (currently more than double) and guarantee European-level service standards.
The project also includes the new “Campegna” station, which will directly connect the Bagnoli neighborhood – a densely populated western area – to Line 6 and, via an interchange, to Line 1.
The project is green inside: innovative materials, highly energy-efficient systems, and urban redevelopment projects that will redesign the entire area between Fuorigrotta and Bagnoli. Two construction phases: Phase one (€325 million already funded by the MIT and the Development and Cohesion Fund): construction of the connection to the Mostra and the workshop.
Second phase: completion of the Campegna depot and station (funding already requested from the Ministry).
Completion is expected in just over seven years. In parallel, Hitachi Rail is already building the 22 new trains that will run on the line.

With today's signing, Line 6 definitively emerges from the limbo of "perpetually under construction" and is on its way to becoming one of the fastest and most technologically advanced metro systems in Southern Italy.
