Napoli The city stopped today for the general strike called by the CGIL (Italian General Confederation of Labour), with ten thousand people marching between Piazza del Gesù and Piazza Municipio. On stage, delegates denounced the critical labor situation and the situation at the Gedi publishing group, reading a document by Antonio Di Costanzo, a journalist at La Repubblica. Meanwhile, Nicola Ricci, the general secretary of the CGIL Naples and Campania, and Luigi Giove, the confederate secretary, addressed the crowd.

The impact on transportation has been severe: Metro Line 1 remained closed, as did the Piscinola-Aversa metro line, with limited service and numerous cancellations on the Circumvesuviana lines. Trenitalia staffing levels reached 30% until 6:00 a.m., the end of the guaranteed time slot.

The strike also had a significant impact on Campania's industrial sector: among metalworking companies in the province of Naples, Marelli, San Giorgio, and LMC had 80% participation, Lear 65%, and Tiberina 50%. In Benevento, full participation was achieved at Hanon Systems and 95% at Ficomirrors; in the province of Salerno, 79% at Sirti in Sala Consilina and 74% at Sonoco; in Caserta, 90% at Italcoat, Firma, and Haiki Metals, and 60% at Getra Power.
