Naples' funiculars in chaos: a new stop for Centrale on December 11th and 12th.

After the sudden shutdown of the Montesanto line, two more days of traffic disruption have arrived in the hills. New Year's Eve (Comitato Valori Collinari): "Continued disruption while the city is packed with tourists, and service should be improved, not reduced."

A new week brings new disruptions for thousands of rail transit users. This morning, the Montesanto funicular was out of service from 10:00 AM to 12:40 PM, yet another disruption attributed to the usual, unclear "technical issues."

The suspension disrupted travel between the city center and the hilltop neighborhood, fueling protests among residents.

Gennaro Capodanno, president of the Valori Collinari Committee, points the finger, speaking bluntly of a "daily ordeal" for funicular users. "It's unacceptable," he says, "that such a strategic service is subject to constant disruptions, without clear information about the causes and without an effective plan to avoid them."

The Central funicular will be closed on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th.

And that's not all. Just as the city is experiencing a peak in tourism and needs improved services, the ANM (National Municipality of Milan) has announced the closure of the Central Funicular for two days, December 11th and 12th.

Official announcements state that the shutdown will allow for monitoring required by ANSFISA, but the announcement isn't enough to reassure the 28 people who use the Piazza Fuga facility every day.

Reduced metro service: last journeys brought forward

To further complicate the situation, the Metro Line 1 will also bring forward its last services to around 21 pm until December 11th, for "on-line checks."

This approach contrasts with recent statements from Palazzo San Giacomo, which discussed expanding the service in light of the increase in tourist arrivals.

"Forget about upgrading," Capodanno insists, "one of the city's most important plants is shutting down precisely on the days when maximum efficiency is needed."

Vomero under pressure: traffic at a standstill

Meanwhile, Vomero is experiencing difficult times due to increasingly congested traffic. Capodanno issues an ultimatum: "Either we immediately strengthen the traffic police force, ensuring their presence at critical intersections, or we need to overhaul the entire traffic system. The current situation is no longer sustainable."

And he warns: "We need rapid and concrete interventions, not long-term projects destined to remain in drawers, like the hypothetical ZTLs that would take months to become a reality."

The public transportation situation is very complicated, and I believe the authorities should do more to resolve the issues. Citizens need a reliable service and cannot endure constant inconvenience without clear information. It's frustrating.
