Naples – A desperate maneuver to escape arrest turned into a cinematic scene in Piazza Cavour, where a 33-year-old drug dealer attempted to get rid of his drugs by throwing them through the open window of a passing car. A dramatic turn of events that wasn't enough to prevent him from being arrested.
Carabinieri officers from the Napoli Stella station were patrolling the area as part of their routine anti-drug operations in the Neapolitan nightlife when they recognized Salvatore Verdicchio, 33, already known to law enforcement for specific criminal convictions. The officers caught him handing over a package to a buyer and decided to intervene immediately.
The escape and the desperate launch
At the sight of the uniforms, Verdicchio attempted to flee. During the run, in a desperate attempt to dispose of the evidence, the dealer had an idea as improvised as it was bizarre: he threw the drugs into a passing car with its window down. This maneuver could have obliterated the drug, but it failed to take into account the quick thinking of the Carabinieri.

The officers immediately stopped the vehicle, finding the unwitting driver—completely uninvolved in the incident—in possession of the package that had just landed in his cabin. Meanwhile, Verdicchio was reached and detained by other officers.
The substance recovered was found to be hashish, weighing a total of 10 grams. During the search, the Carabinieri also seized €90 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of drug dealing. The 33-year-old was arrested and is now awaiting trial. The driver, after the necessary investigations, was released without charges.
The operation is part of a broader territorial control effort implemented by the Carabinieri to combat drug dealing in Naples' nightlife areas, where the presence of drug dealers remains a constant scourge.

It's incredible how people can think of escaping like this. Sometimes I wonder if they've truly understood that they can't escape the law. Drugs are a serious problem that needs to be addressed more carefully.
