Naples – The "miracle" of San Gennaro was repeated again this year. In the Treasury Chapel of Naples Cathedral, the patron saint's blood flowed, sparking emotion and applause from the faithful gathered to celebrate the Feast of the Patronage.

The liquefaction announcement was made by the abbot of the Treasury Chapel, Monsignor Vincenzo De Gregorio, at the end of the eagerly awaited ceremony. The December 16th miracle represents the third miracle of the year, following the May miracle and the one on September 19th, the day dedicated to the city's patron saint.

The December celebration is traditionally called the "secular miracle": the celebration, in fact, does not take place at the main altar of the Cathedral but in the Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro and is organized by the Deputation of San Gennaro, the city's historic representative body. It is presided over by the mayor of Naples, who is responsible for protecting the saint's relics and safeguarding the priceless heritage of the Treasury.

A rite that, combining faith and civic identity, continues to mark one of the Neapolitan community's most heartfelt moments, renewing a centuries-old bond between San Gennaro and his city.

The Miracle of San Gennaro is always an important event for our city, but I wonder if everyone truly believes it's a miracle? The tradition is beautiful, but sometimes it seems like just a meaningless celebration for many.
