The Assize Court ofAppeal of Milan has issued a weighty sentence, confirming in full the sentence of Irene Pivetti, former President of the Chamber, to four years of imprisonment for the crimes of tax evasion and Recycling.
The verdict, read in court, also upheld the two-year sentences for rally driver Leonardo Isolani and his wife Manuela Mascoli, key figures in the contested commercial operations. The ruling fully meets the requests of the prosecution, represented in the second instance by prosecutor Giovanni Tarzia, in cooperation with the Attorney General's Office.
Ferraris at the center of the fraud
At the heart of the legal proceedings remain several controversial commercial transactions dating back to 2016, with a total value of approximately €10 million. Specifically, the investigation focused on the sale of three Ferrari Granturismos, which, according to the prosecution, were used as vehicles to launder illicit proceeds from tax fraud.
The former League politician not only saw his prison sentence confirmed, but the appeal judges also upheld the seizure of assets worth over €3,4 million.
The defendant's reaction
Irene Pivetti, present in the courtroom when the verdict was read alongside her lawyer, Filippo Cocco (who had strenuously called for his client's acquittal), reacted to the verdict with a brief but clear statement:
"I'm calm. The truth is, I'm innocent. We'll read the reasons."
The defense is now awaiting the filing of the reasons for the appeal to the Supreme Court, the final level of judgment, in a case that continues to command high media attention.
