A new chapter in the betting scandal has engulfed Turkish football. The Istanbul Prosecutor's Office, as part of its investigation into betting and match-fixing, has issued arrest warrants for 46 people: 38 have been detained domestically, while five are currently abroad.
Among those arrested are prominent names from the Turkish football scene: sports commentator Ahmet Çakar, footballers Mert Hakan Yandaş and Metehan Baltacı, Ankaraspor owner Ahmet Okatan, club president Mehmet Emin Katipoğlu, Nazilli Belediyespor president Şahin Kaya, former Adana Demirspor president Murat Sancak, top-flight referee TFF Zorbay Küçük, Antalyaspor manager Emrah Çelik, as well as players Erhan Çelenk from Serikspor and Yusuf Özdemir from Alanyaspor.
The investigation uncovered an organized betting and match-fixing network, orchestrated through clubs and players, highlighting the deep-rooted and structured nature of the phenomenon. Following judicial proceedings, 20 suspects were arrested and sent to prison, while authorities continue to examine the whereabouts of the others detained. Turkish authorities have emphasized that the investigation is not concluded and that further developments could emerge in the coming weeks, with new names implicated and possible expansions of the dismantled network.

What's happening in Turkey with football is very worrying; I wasn't expecting it at all. The famous names implicated make us think that the betting problem is bigger than we think; more attention is needed.
