In Seiano, Christmas doesn't arrive suddenly, but emerges like a slow caress among the stones, alleys, and terraces overlooking the sea. Over the two weekends of December 6th and 7th, and again on the 13th and 14th, the village of Vico Equense embraces the "Villaggio del Gusto," a festival that transforms the neighborhood into a pulsating universe where lights, scents, and rituals become the very rhythm of the days. Stalls glow amid the aromas of fried foods, minestre maritate (a soup made with vegetables), and ancient sweets, while artisans and creative workshops revive a community that, amid hands stained with paint and handmade objects, rediscovers its identity. Children run to the elves' house and Santa Claus welcomes them into a suspended microcosm, while the "Nanometrozero" educational farm, open daily from 13 pm to 19 pm, brings back to the village games and stories designed for families.

Music, a discreet yet essential companion, punctuates the entire event. On Saturday, December 6th, the arrival of "The Blue Gospel Singers" heralds an almost spiritual vibration that warms the square as darkness begins to fall. The following day, the tone shifts toward irony with Luisa Esposito and Francesco Viglietti's bingo show around 13 p.m., before the warm voice of Lorena Bartoli envelops the alleyways in an intimate afternoon. The evening closes with a collective screening of Napoli-Juventus, which has become a sort of popular ritual in Seiano. On Saturday, December 13th, the celebration takes on a more ancient rhythm thanks to "'A Paranza ro Tramuntan," which brings the sounds of tradition, born of the land and the sea and intertwined with stories passed down in hushed tones, to the streets. On Sunday, the 14th, the day opens with Marco Palmieri's bingo show and concludes with the elegant and intimate voice of Nick Cavaliere.

It all comes together thanks to the "Gens Seja" Association, which has been committed since 2016 to preserving and revitalizing the spirit of the area. "The Villaggio del Gusto," explains President Ciro Buonocore, "is not just a celebration, but a symbolic bridge between past and present, a way to express who we are and restore a familiar, welcoming, and authentic feel to the village." Getting there is easy, even for those coming from outside: in addition to the Circumvesuviana train, shuttle buses from the center of Vico Equense reach the parking areas on Via Mirto and Via Raffaele Bosco, which are connected by a dedicated service.

I think the Village of Taste is a nice Christmas initiative, but I don't know if it's truly effective in reviving the community. While the lights and aromas are lovely, it remains to be seen whether it brings long-term benefits.
