Naples – Yet another scam involving a fake Carabiniere in the Siena area has resulted in three arrests. On the evening of December 2nd, real Carabiniere officers responded quickly after a report reached the 112 emergency number: a man had just been scammed by a woman who, posing as a law enforcement officer, had managed to extract jewelry and valuables.
When the patrol arrived on the scene, the scammer had just left the victim's home and was walking toward a car. A brief tailgating maneuver was enough to locate and stop the vehicle. Aside from the woman, there were two other accomplices inside; all three were arrested.
Stolen goods worth 15 thousand euros
During the search of the vehicle, the Carabinieri found gold jewelry and trinkets worth approximately €15.000. The stolen goods, still intact, were immediately seized and later returned to their rightful owner.
The prompt reporting and rapid intervention prevented the gang from fleeing or striking elsewhere.

Arrests validated, the obligation to sign is triggered
The three women, residents of the provinces of Naples and Caserta, were taken to the police station and subjected to a fast-track trial. The judge confirmed their arrests and ordered them all to report to the judicial police three times a week in their municipality of residence.
Not an isolated case
Just a few days earlier, on November 30th, another Carabinieri operation had led to the arrest of four people—three women and a man—responsible for a scam targeting an elderly couple in Colle Val d'Elsa. The gang in that case also hailed from Campania, although different from the trio arrested on December 2nd.
Investigations are continuing to verify any links between the groups and to reconstruct the network of scams carried out using the same method.

It's truly incredible how there are people who exploit others' trust to commit scams. Reporting them was crucial, and the Carabinieri did an excellent job in apprehending these women. I hope they are punished appropriately.
