Naples – A night of widespread checks affected the heart of Vomero's nightlife. As part of the measures ordered by the Police Headquarters to contain disruption in the entertainment districts, last night law enforcement officers conducted a large-scale joint operation.

The operation, coordinated by the Naples Police Headquarters and involving officers from the Vomero, Bagnoli, and Secondigliano police stations with the support of the Guardia di Finanza, targeted the most popular nightlife areas of the hilltop neighborhood.

Patrols and checkpoints were deployed in San Martino and along a route that included Via Giordano, Via Falcone, Via Scarlatti, Piazza Medaglie d'Oro and the nerve centre of Piazza Vanvitelli.

The numbers from the raid, which concluded in the early hours of the morning, speak for themselves. The officers identified 33 people; five of them had prior police records. The patrol also included traffic: six vehicles were stopped and checked, while 25 tickets were issued for traffic violations.

But the spotlight has also fallen on commercial establishments. Nine bars and pubs were thoroughly inspected. The results led to significant complaints for various types of non-compliance, resulting in the imposition of regulations and administrative fines totaling approximately €1.000.

The most striking intervention in terms of food safety was the seizure of 8 kilograms of food, found in poor condition and therefore immediately withdrawn from sale.

The operation is part of the Police Headquarters' security plan, which in recent weeks has intensified operations in areas with the highest concentrations of clubs, also responding to residents' complaints about public disturbances and issues related to alcohol consumption and nighttime traffic. The stated goal is to ensure fun and safety, while cracking down on all forms of illegality, from petty crime to commercial irregularities.

The Vomero operation seems right to me, but there are many things I'm unclear about. The checks are necessary, but how can we ensure safety without excessively disturbing people who want to have fun? It's not easy.
