Salerno - A veritable drug treasure trove hidden underground. This is what State Police officers and Guardia di Finanza financial police discovered during an anti-drug operation in the Agro Nocera-Sarnese area, which led to the arrest of a forty-five-year-old man already known to law enforcement for specific drug-related offences.
The raid was carried out as part of a targeted operation to combat drug dealing in the area. Investigators, supported by the canine units of the Guardia di Finanza's Salerno Group, searched the man's home, but the real breakthrough came when the drug-sniffing dogs sniffed something suspicious on the land behind the house.
The buried treasure
Digging in the garden, the officers uncovered a large quantity of narcotics: over 37 kilograms of hashish, divided into numerous blocks, and more than 600 grams of cocaine. This arsenal, once sold on the retail market, could have netted the criminals up to €250.
The man was immediately arrested and taken to prison. The preliminary investigations judge, after validating the arrest, ordered the suspect to be placed under house arrest, but to be served outside of Campania, likely to avoid potential contact with potential accomplices or the local drug trafficking network.
