NAPLES. The event "When one light lights up others: organ and tissue donation in memory of Alessandro Barbato" will be held on Tuesday, December 3, starting at 10:00 a.m. in the Salvo D'Acquisto auditorium of the Salesian Institute "Sacro Cuore" in Naples-Vomero. The initiative is dedicated to the young student at the classical high school on Via Scarlatti, who died prematurely last summer, just before his final year (fifth), which would have led to his final exams. His family has chosen to donate his organs.
During the morning, a commemorative plaque in honor of Alessandro will be unveiled in one of the classrooms of the hillside institute directed by Father Franco Gallone. Following this, a symbolic soccer match will be held on the Salesian oratory field between students from the fourth and fifth grades of the classical high school. This sporting event is designed to celebrate the values of friendship and solidarity that the young man embodied.
The event is part of a broader PCTO (Paths for Transversal Skills and Orientation) project aimed at fifth-year high school students in classical and scientific subjects. The initiative is coordinated by teachers Caterina Lardaro (Literature) and Chiara Allocca (Science).
Prominent figures in the field of transplants and transfusion activities will contribute: Dr. Pierino Di Silverio, coordinator of the Campania Regional Transplant Center (CRT); Dr. Saverio Misso, head of the Regional Coordination Structure (SRC) for Transfusion Activities at the Campania Region's Directorate General for Health Protection; and Dr. Carlo Capelli, head of the Territorial Transplant Coordination Unit at the Santobono-Pausilipon Pediatric Hospital.
We also look forward to a testimony from Ms. Rosa Adamo, vice president of the Italian Heart Transplant Association and member of the board of the Campania branch of ACTI, who will share her firsthand experience of experiencing the value of donation every day. This will be a moment of reflection and remembrance, but also an educational opportunity to raise awareness among young people about a topic capable of transforming pain into hope.
