Avellino - Yesterday morning, at the Grottaminarda highway toll booth, the Fiamme Gialle of the Ariano Irpino Company carried out a major crackdown on drug dealing, arresting a 25-year-old from the province of Avellino and seizing a significant quantity of drugs.
The operation, coordinated by the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Avellino, took place as part of the usual territorial control activities, with the assistance of the drug-sniffing canine unit of the Naples Emergency Response Group.
The officers stopped a car with two young people on board, carrying out a thorough search that led to the discovery of various types of narcotics hidden on the passenger's person.
Specifically, 14 grams of cocaine, 102 grams of hashish, and 7 grams of marijuana were seized, as well as approximately €2.000 in cash believed to be the proceeds of the illegal activity. The 25-year-old was immediately arrested and, by order of the judicial authorities, placed under house arrest pending a validation hearing.
The driver of the car, however, was found in possession of 2 grams of marijuana and hashish, an amount deemed below the criminal threshold: he was reported to the Prefecture pursuant to Article 75 of Presidential Decree 309/90, regarding possession for personal consumption.
This intervention demonstrates the ongoing prevention and repression efforts implemented by the Guardia di Finanza, with the aim of combating the most insidious forms of drug dealing and ensuring community safety. High levels of vigilance remain on major transport routes, where drug trafficking represents one of the most pressing threats to the community.
