Avellino – As the holidays approach, the black market for fake or dangerous fireworks and Christmas decorations is booming, but the Guardia di Finanza (Financial Police) is turning a deaf ear. The Avellino Provincial Command has launched a series of targeted raids, intensifying checks in the Irpinia area.
The goal: to curb the illicit trafficking of explosive materials and the sale of counterfeit or unsafe products that can turn celebrations into a trap for consumers.
Since the beginning of the month, local military units have raided several businesses in the province. The haul is impressive: over 15.000 fireworks were seized because they lacked the necessary permits for safe storage. Two people have been reported to the Judicial Authorities for violating Article 678 of the Criminal Code (dangerous possession of explosive materials).
But it's not just illegal fireworks. More than 18.000 Christmas items—including electrical decorations, lights, and cosmetics—found in the same network, deemed noncompliant with strict safety standards. Two individuals have been reported to the local Chamber of Commerce for this portion.

The operations are part of a broader countermeasure plan promoted by the Prefect of Avellino at the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety. This action goes far beyond simple repression: "These activities," the Finance Police emphasize, "represent a constant safeguard of legality." They serve as a shield protecting the physical safety of citizens and families, but also as a safeguard for honest businesses, too often suffocated by unfair competition from those who circumvent the rules.
As the city lights up for the holidays, the Guardia di Finanza (Fiamme Gialle) is issuing a clear warning: the Christmas market, especially those related to fireworks, will be under constant surveillance. To prevent a hidden danger from exploding amidst the toasts and gift-giving.
