In the heart of Barra, a 44-year-old man was arrested after attempting to dispose of a 9mm pistol in a trash can, an operation that highlights the Naples Police Headquarters' commitment to combating the circulation of illegal weapons in the city's most problematic neighborhoods.
Naples – He tried to blend in with the customers of a business, hoping the sudden movement would go unnoticed. But his attempt to escape the officers only confirmed their suspicions. The escape of a 44-year-old Neapolitan man, already known to law enforcement, who was intercepted yesterday afternoon in the heart of the Barra neighborhood, ended with him in handcuffs.
The operation began during extraordinary territorial patrols ordered by the Naples Police Headquarters to curb the circulation of illegal weapons in the city. Officers from the San Giovanni-Barra Police Station were patrolling Via Villa Bisignano when they spotted the man. Upon seeing the patrol car, he sped up and took refuge inside a shop.
The police immediately followed him, stopping him just as he was trying to dispose of a bag, throwing it into a trash can. Inside, the investigators' intuition revealed a disturbing finding: a loaded and ready-to-use 9mm pistol, along with 41 rounds of ammunition.
Ballistic tests and checks on the vehicle's serial numbers revealed that the weapon was the result of a previously reported theft. The 44-year-old was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and receiving stolen goods. The arrest is part of a broader crackdown by law enforcement on gun possession in the troubled neighborhoods of the eastern suburbs.

The police operation was significant, but I wonder if this is an isolated case or if there are others like it. The police must continue to carry out checks for the safety of the citizens living in Barra.
