Benevento - A surgical operation by the Guardia di Finanza has shed light on an increasingly widespread phenomenon in the Sannio region: "open-and-close" companies, shell companies created with a single goal—to evade taxes and avoid supplier debts.
Seven businesses, primarily in the Caudina Valley, were discovered and exposed by the Guardia di Finanza during targeted inspections. The modus operandi was well-tested: start a business, make it appear legitimate for a few months, then vanish into thin air, leaving creditors and the state empty-handed.
Investigations revealed that these were completely fictitious businesses, with no actual economic operation. The Guardia di Finanza documented every risk associated with the assignment of VAT numbers, providing the Provincial Directorate of the Revenue Agency in Benevento with all the necessary documentation to proceed with the termination of the tax codes.
The operation represents an important step in the fight against tax evasion in the province of Benevento, an area where the phenomenon of shell companies continues to pose a significant challenge to the competent authorities.
