A dairy plant in Moiano, in the Benevento area, was seized by the Carabinieri of the Airola and Sant'Agata dei Goti forestry units and the Benevento National Park Protection Agency (NIPAAF) following the illegal discharge of industrial wastewater into the Isclero River. The operation, which began around 1:30 a.m., was the culmination of an investigation that traced the source of the pollution and filed charges against the company's two legal representatives for environmental violations.
The discovery was made after the appearance of white foam and unpleasant odors typical of dairy waste along the waterway. The military monitored the river flow at various times of the day, supported by drones and field teams, and were able to pinpoint the illegal activity and its timing, primarily in the evening and nighttime hours.
ARPAC took samples from both the wastewater exiting the pipeline and the river waters upstream and downstream of the spill. The samples, sealed and sent to the laboratory for analysis, will be used to determine the concentration of pollutants and complete the environmental impact assessment. The Guardia di Finanza also seized the outlet pipe from the whey storage silos, resulting from the production line. This operation demonstrates careful environmental monitoring and the rigorous fight against illegal industrial discharges in the province of Benevento.
