Mondragone – A veritable arsenal of fireworks, ready to be released on the black market on the eve of the New Year's Eve celebrations, was discovered and seized by the Carabinieri in Mondragone.
The operation, conducted by the military of the local Territorial Department, led to the discovery of over 11 quintals of pyrotechnic material dangerously stored inside a private home.
The blitz and the kidnapping
The operation took place overnight on Via MB Greco. The Carabinieri, following an investigative effort to combat the possession of unauthorized explosives, raided the property occupied by a 61-year-old woman.
During the search, the soldiers found a huge amount of material: among the rooms of the apartment were piled up flares, mini rockets, raudi and fireworks belonging to categories “I” and “II”.
The total weight of the material exceeded 1.100 kilograms, a quantity sufficient to pose a potential danger to the entire building and the surrounding area, due to the precarious storage conditions.
All the material was immediately seized and transferred to a specialized firm for safe custody. The woman was reported to the judicial authorities at liberty, where she will face charges of illegal manufacturing or trade in explosives.
Safety and prevention
The operation, coordinated by the Mondragone Station and the Operations and Radiomobile Unit, is part of the extraordinary control plan prepared by the Carabinieri for the holidays. The objective is twofold:
Target the illegal market that fuels unauthorized sales channels.
Protect public safety by drastically reducing the risk of accidents related to the use of prohibited or poorly maintained firecrackers.
The military remains vigilant along the entire Domitian coast to intercept further illegal shipments before New Year's Eve.

The Carabinieri operation in Mondragone is very important for public safety, but I wonder how a woman could have so much fireworks in her home. This highlights a serious control problem.
