Carabinieri from the San Nicola la Strada station arrested a man and a woman from Caivano last night, December 18th, after they were caught selling drugs on Viale De Gasperi, a short walk from the City Hall. This operation is part of the ongoing anti-drug trafficking efforts conducted by the Caserta Company in the area.
The undercover operation
The raid was launched following a civilian surveillance operation, launched after reports of suspected drug dealing activity near a downtown bar. The officers witnessed a suspicious exchange: a young man leaving the bar approached a parked car, spoke briefly with the occupants, and then made what appeared to be a quick exchange of money and drugs before fleeing.
The car immediately sped off toward Viale Carlo III, but the Carabinieri intercepted and stopped it. Upon seeing the uniforms, the two occupants showed obvious signs of nervousness and spontaneously handed over a quantity of hashish.
The seizure and the investigations
Investigations revealed that the driver, a 21-year-old known for a drug-related offense, was driving without a license. The two were then taken to the station for further investigation. During a personal search, officers discovered 17 doses of crack and cocaine cleverly hidden on the woman, packaged in different colored bags. The man, however, had €345 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of drug dealing.
Cell phone analysis provided further evidence: unmistakable messages and images related to sales activity, with explicit references to quantities, prices, and promotions.
Precautionary measures
Following the investigation, the couple was arrested for possession of narcotics with intent to sell. The Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere ordered the man to be detained and transferred to the San Marino prison, while the woman was placed under house arrest.
