Brusciano – A night of terror in Brusciano, where a gang of unknown assailants targeted the ATM of the Credito Popolare Bank on Via Camillo Cucca, using the so-called "groundhog technique," a homemade explosive device increasingly used in ATM attacks.
According to an initial reconstruction, shortly after midnight, the criminals inserted a metal container—a "marmotta"—connected to a trigger into the cash dispenser, then detonated it to break open the night safe and access the cash. The explosion caused extensive damage to the ATM structure and the bank's facade, startling several local residents.
Carabinieri from the Brusciano station responded to the scene, securing the area and launching the initial investigation. The value of the loot has not yet been determined, nor is it clear whether the bandits managed to remove the entire contents of the safe.
The investigation has now been entrusted to the Carabinieri of the Castello di Cisterna Investigative Unit, who are collecting footage from surveillance cameras along Via Camillo Cucca and surrounding streets, searching for evidence to help trace the gang. It has not been ruled out that the robbery may have been carried out by a group specializing in bank robberies, active in the Vesuvius area and the Naples hinterland.
