Soccer player stabbed in Chiaia: It was a punitive operation; the mystery surrounding the phone call between his parents

The Prosecutor's Office denies premeditation: Bruno Petrone was framed and stabbed while two accomplices held him down. The Prefect, in the hospital, visits his parents: "A firm sentence for a despicable act." Bruno lost his spleen.

Naples – It wasn't a brawl, but an execution interrupted only by chance and the tenacity of an athlete. The investigation into the attempted murder of Bruno Petrone, the promising 18-year-old footballer injured in the nightlife of Chiaia, sheds a disturbing light on the dynamics of juvenile violence in Naples.

While the boy struggles to fully recover at the San Paolo hospital, where he was visited by Prefect Michele di Bari, the documents from the investigation conducted by the Carabinieri of the Naples Central Company paint a picture of lucid and planned savagery.

The trap on Via Bisignano

The images captured by five different video surveillance systems leave little to the imagination. Bruno Petrone attempted to escape. He immediately realized that this wasn't an argument, but a "sentence." Around 1:00 a.m. on December 27th, the gang swung into action on two scooters. Leading the punitive expedition was a 15-year-old from San Carlo all'Arena, armed with a knife and a heavy wrench.

The dynamics reconstructed by investigators, coordinated by Deputy Prosecutor Claudia De Luca, are chilling: while the 15-year-old was launching the first blows with the wrench, two accomplices, aged 16 and 17, were blocking the victim's arms, preventing him from defending himself or parrying the blows.

A "massacre of beatings" culminated in two deep stab wounds to the abdomen and chest. A fourth accomplice, meanwhile, acted as a "screen," beating up a friend of Petrone's who had desperately tried to intervene to save the footballer.

The motive and the mystery of the contacts between the families

It all began with a "look too many" a week earlier. An offense that, according to the distorted rules of the road, had to be washed away with blood. But there's a detail that transforms this story into a modern Shakespearean drama: Bruno and his attacker didn't know each other, yet their paths had already crossed. The 15-year-old's older brother had played on the same soccer team as Bruno.

The investigation documents reveal a background story that the Prosecutor's Office is carefully evaluating: the fathers of the two boys spoke on the phone in the days preceding the attack to attempt mediation, a sort of "pacification" to end the disagreements that arose from the initial argument.

An attempt at parental diplomacy that failed in the worst possible way, given that the boys—according to the prosecution—had instead been plotting revenge, showing up to the appointment armed with weapons.

Defensive strategies and the “phantom gun”

On Saturday afternoon, feeling cornered by the rapid investigation by the Pastrengo police, the four turned themselves in. The 15-year-old, assisted by lawyer Vincenzo Maiello, admitted his guilt, saying he was "sorry." This version, however, doesn't entirely convince investigators, who suspect the group coordinated over the phone to provide convenient versions and downplay the role of their accomplices.

The defense has also raised the possibility of provocation: the suspects claim that, during the first confrontation a week ago, the 18-year-old had displayed a gun tucked into his waistband. "He lifted his sweater and we saw it," they stated in the statement. This assertion, according to the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, is, at this point, merely a defensive strategy: there is no trace of the weapon, while the wounds left by the knife on Bruno's body are all too real.

The validation hearing

This morning, the hearing to validate the arrests will be held at the Colli Aminei reception center. The charges are extremely serious: attempted murder aggravated by premeditation and abject and futile motives. The 15-year-old has also been charged with illegal possession of a weapon. While justice takes its course, the city is left holding its breath for Bruno, the footballer who couldn't understand why he was being treated like this, the victim of a savagery that found its way not on the pitch, but on the cobblestones of Naples' elite.

The Prefect's visit to the hospital

Yesterday morning, the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, personally visited the San Paolo Hospital to express the institutions' support. Di Bari met with Bruno's parents, Cristian and Dorotea, sharing their anguish and thanking the medical team led by Chief Physician Maurizio Ferrara for saving the young athlete's life.

"It was a violent and reprehensible act that must never happen again," declared the Prefect, hoping that Bruno can soon return to the field with Angri.

I don't understand how it could get to this point. Young people should focus on having fun, not committing violence. It's awful to hear about these things. I hope Bruno recovers and that justice is done. Families should raise their children better.
