Naples – A breakthrough in the investigation had been in the air, and investigators had been anticipating it for hours. Two of the alleged perpetrators of the stabbing of young footballer Bruno Petrone turned themselves in over the past few hours, opening a new phase in the investigation into the overnight attack in Naples' Chiaia neighborhood.
The two minors, aged 15 and 17, voluntarily presented themselves to law enforcement. The younger man arrived at the police station accompanied by his lawyer and admitted to inflicting the stab wound that left the 18-year-old in serious condition.
The 17-year-old, however, turned himself in to the Carabinieri, acknowledging his involvement in the attack, which—according to what has emerged so far—occurred as part of a gang attack.
The two boys are now at the disposal of the Prosecutor's Office at the Juvenile Court of Naples and will be questioned by the deputy prosecutor on duty, who has since arrived at the Pastrengo Barracks.
Only after an initial reconstruction of the facts, based on interrogations and evidence gathered by investigators, will it be possible to define the position of the two minors.
Investigators are working to identify at least two other accomplices who may have participated in the siege and attack, while investigations continue to reconstruct the precise sequence of events.
The motive for the attack remains unclear: at this time, several hypotheses have not been ruled out, ranging from an argument that escalated into violence to possible past tensions between the youths involved. Meanwhile, Bruno Petrone's condition remains serious, and the city is following the unfolding incident with concern, which has once again brought the spotlight on youth violence in the city center.

This is a very complicated situation, and it's unfortunate that young people are involved in acts of violence. We hope the authorities can shed light on what happened and that justice is served for the injured boy.
