A massive raid in the early hours of today has rocked the capital: Carabinieri officers from the Rome Provincial Command, acting on behalf of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA), have handcuffed 14 people who had been issued precautionary custody orders.
At the center of the investigation is the upper echelons of the "Senese Clan," the criminal organization that has cast its shadow over Rome's criminal underworld for years. Among the prominent names caught in the investigators' net are Angelo Senese, brother of Michele Senese, a historic and leading figure in the clan, and Ettore Abramo, known as "Pluto," known to the press as the former deputy to Fabrizio Piscitelli, aka "Diabolik," the Lazio fan murdered in 2019.
But also Girolamo Finizio, the brothers Alvise and Leopoldo Cobianchi and the boxer Kevin Di Napoli, who was shot along with his trainer while they were in Casoria in the province of Naples in July 2024. And then he was the protagonist of another crime story last July when his gym was set on fire in Ostia.
The charges: extortion, foiled murders
The charges, depending on the individual positions, are extremely serious and paint a picture of violence and criminal arrogance: from attempted murder to the illegal possession and carrying of firearms, including extortion aggravated by mafia methods and, in some circumstances, the intent to facilitate the activities of the Senese clan. An attempted kidnapping, also aggravated by the ferocity of mafia methods, has also been documented.
Investigators believe they have gathered serious evidence on a series of incidents that reveal the group's web of interests. Among the crimes alleged are two attempted murders in the capital, the inevitable drug dealing activity, and an extortion attempt against a Roman jeweler.
The connection with the Di Lauro Clan: Senese's "Compensation"
It's precisely the jeweler's episode that reveals the dangerous business connections between the Roman and Campanian criminal underworld. A criminal from the capital, claiming to be operating under the aegis of the Senese family, allegedly attempted a "pizzo" (protection racket). This act triggered a violent reaction not only from the Roman gang, represented by Angelo Senese, but also from the fierce Di Lauro clan, active in the Naples area.
The force of the attempted blackmail would have thus generated a full-blown diplomatic crisis between the gangs, resolved with a subsequent request for "compensation" – a clear sign of the criminal management of the territory.
The operation, conducted with the support of specialized and special forces units, dealt a severe blow to one of Rome's most feared clans, confirming the presence of mafia tentacles capable of forging alliances and spreading terror in the Eternal City.

The Carabinieri operation in Rome was very significant, but many things remain unclear, such as the involvement of well-known figures. While it is hoped these arrests will lead to a decrease in crime, it is difficult to know whether this will be enough.
