Naples - At dawn, Secondigliano woke again to the sound of helicopters and sirens. A large-scale operation by the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command, coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, led to the execution of 21 precautionary measures, with 19 arrests in prison (five of whom were already detained) and two under house arrest.
The raid represents a new blow to the Licciardi clan, a cornerstone of the Secondigliano Alliance and long-standing hegemony over Secondigliano, Miano, and the northern part of the city. According to investigators, the suspects—many of whom are members of the clan's newest recruits—are alleged to have engaged in extortion, receiving stolen goods, illicit communications with prisoners, and even prison escapes, all crimes aggravated by mafia methods.
The investigation, which follows and reinforces the results of the last operation against the Licciardis and the Russos of Nola, reconstructs a picture of operational continuity despite the arrests and blows suffered by the cartel's leaders.
What stands out above all is the clan's ability to regenerate itself through young members, often already trained by the historic groups and ready to take on operational roles, from managing drug dealing centers to extorting pressure on local merchants and entrepreneurs.
According to the DDA, the group maintained close contact with senior members of the clan who were already in prison, exploiting illicit communication channels within prisons. This system, over the years, allowed the clan to issue orders, coordinate business, and reorganize the criminal network across the country.
The precautionary measure issued by the preliminary investigations judge of the Court of Naples certifies a presumed criminal organization that is still intact, well-structured, and capable of controlling significant portions of the hinterland.
Today's operation represents, according to investigators, a decisive step in the attempt to curb the rise of the new generation, which aims to ensure the continuity of the Licciardi brand despite legal pressure.
Just a few weeks ago, the same Masseria Cardone gang had been hit by further arrests for an operation that had led to the imprisonment of the grandchildren of the deceased founder. Gennaro Licciardi 'a scigna which together with the young talents of the Russian clan from Nola had set up an organization dedicated to money laundering through sports betting.
