The new leadership of the Amato-Pagano clan marks a crucial chapter in the fight against the Camorra, with requests for sentences exceeding 550 years in prison, the result of an investigation that has revealed a cunning and insidious criminal system, ready to reorganize even after the blows inflicted by the.
The new leadership of the Amato-Pagano clan, direct heir to the Scissionisti galaxy, is heading quickly towards one of the most severe judicial blows of recent years.
After a flurry of collaborations and confessions recorded in recent weeks, yesterday morning in the courtroom it was the turn of the Naples District Anti-Mafia Directorate, which concluded its closing argument by calling for very harsh sentences.
The proceedings are the result of a long and detailed anti-mafia investigation, culminating in a major raid that decapitated the new leaders of the organization after the arrest of its longtime leaders.
An investigation that reconstructed, through wiretaps, shadowing, and statements from informants, the reorganization of the clan under the direction of sisters Debora and Monica Amato, identified by investigators as the decision-making hub of the new criminal structure.
The raid began at dawn, resulting in dozens of arrests in Secondigliano, Melito, Mugnano, and Arzano, the clan's historic strongholds. The charges range from mafia association to drug trafficking, including extortion, fictitious ownership, control of judicial auctions, and a systematic attack on tax incentives.
A criminal system described as widespread and modern, even capable of "training" affiliated minors: what to say, when to remain silent, how to handle an interrogation. A veritable university of crime.

Yesterday, the Prosecutor's Office requested a total of 46 sentences, for a total of nearly 550 years in prison. The most severe request concerns Debora Amato, believed to be the leader of the criminal holding company, for whom the prosecutor has requested over fifteen years in prison. Higher sentences are also sought for the other alleged leaders and the network of associates who allegedly ensured the clan's continued operations.
The defense team now has the floor, tasked with dismantling a prosecution case described by investigators as "granite-free." Following the oral arguments, preliminary investigations judge Villano will deliver the verdict.

I read the article and found it interesting how the Camorra continues to reorganize despite the blows it has received. The prison sentences seem very high, but a strong commitment is needed to fight organized crime.
