Casavatore - High flames and black smoke in a city that with the arrival of the Christmas holidays is experiencing a climate of terror due to the criminal upsurge raging in the area between Arzano and Casavatore.
A few days after the sensational attempted break-in robbery of a phone shop on Via Domenico Morelli, a tobacconist's in the city's market area went up in flames. Initial reports suggest that the well-known establishment was first robbed and subsequently, according to police, also set on fire.
The flames spread to the back room adjacent to the bar, destroying everything. Firefighters responded to the scene to put out the flames. Officers from the Afragola police station are investigating the theft and the true cause of the blaze. After a period of apparent calm, crime has thus returned.
Violent and fanatical, the new recruits, presumably associates of the Ferone clan (an offshoot of the Amato-Pagano clan), are said to be primarily focused on managing drug dealing hubs. This business is said to generate staggering sums of money and has often been the trigger for the major Camorra wars fought in the province in recent years.
This critical situation greatly complicates the work of law enforcement, which is already severely hampered by the wall of silence that still protects the Camorra. Furthermore, some areas, including Via Palizzi and Piazza XXX Luglio, are said to be particularly popular with errand boys and boys working for the mafia.
