Castellammare – A bitter farewell, motivated by the need to avoid compromising on legality. Sandro Ruotolo resigns as city councilor of Castellammare di Stabia, creating a deep rift in the local political landscape.

He did so immediately after voting in favor of the budget, a final act defined as "responsible" to ensure the continuity of essential services to the city, but which does not erase a very harsh judgment on the work of the council led by Mayor Vicinanza.

The accusation: "Weak politics, the Camorra thrives."

According to Ruotolo, the current administration has failed to provide the necessary barrier against organized crime that the area, emerging from a long period of administration due to mafia infiltration, required.

"This administration hasn't been up to the task. It hasn't been a barrier to the Camorra," the Democratic Party MEP lashes out.

In particular, Ruotolo singles out the phenomenon of civic lists, described as "electoral committees for the elected party" and fertile ground for infiltration: "The Camorra thrives where politics is weak. The mayor's resignation would not be a victory for the clans, but rather an opportunity for the parties to seriously reflect on this last-minute civic-mindedness."

The Observatory's data and the shadow of the clans

Ruotolo's decision is based not only on political considerations, but also on the results of work conducted with the Federico II University of Naples. The Stabia Camorra Observatory has highlighted alarming critical issues:

Suspicious electoral dynamics in high-crime neighborhoods.

Family ties between members of the Council and top clan figures.

Telephone intercepts reveal contacts between politicians and criminals.

This data has already been scrutinized by the Anti-Mafia Judiciary and the Prefecture, which are closely monitoring the Municipality's administrative actions.

«I have exhausted my function»

Elected as the Democratic Party's top candidate to mark a clear break with the past, Ruotolo now considers his time on the municipal benches to be over. "Continuing to sit in this chamber would add nothing to a commitment that remains binding. The fight against the Camorra allows no ambiguity."

The MEP's commitment, he assures, will continue "outside the city's institutions," but always on the front lines for transparency and legality in Castellammare.
