Cuccaro Vetere – More bloodshed on the roads of the Salerno area. This morning, Tuesday, December 30th, a dramatic traffic accident on State Road 18 Cilentana claimed the life of a 77-year-old man.

The victim, a resident of Nocera Inferiore, was driving on the main road when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle left the roadway between the municipalities of Cuccaro Vetere and Futani.

The impact was fatal: the car crashed through the barriers and fell several meters into a ravine. Despite the prompt intervention of 118 emergency responders, who arrived on the scene with several units, all attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful. The man died instantly due to the force of the impact.

The illness hypothesis

The investigation, entrusted to the local Carabinieri, aims to reconstruct the exact circumstances of the accident. At this time, no other vehicles appear to have been involved, which supports the theory of a sudden illness that left the elderly man unable to control the vehicle.

Rescue and traffic

The fire department had to intervene at the scene of the tragedy for the complex recovery of the vehicle from the bottom of the ravine. ANAS teams worked for hours to manage traffic, which had been severely slowed throughout the morning, and to secure the affected stretch of road. The body is now at the disposal of the judicial authorities for the usual examinations.
