A serious accident rocked the A1 this afternoon when a heavy vehicle collided with an LPG tanker, causing an explosion that required the immediate evacuation of the area and severely strained rescuers. The stretch of road toward Rome has now reopened, but the consequences are being felt.
Shortly after 7:00 PM, the stretch of the A1 Milan-Naples motorway between Capua and Caianello, heading towards Rome, reopened. The opposite lane, towards Naples, remains closed to allow for safety measures and repairs to be carried out following a serious accident that occurred this afternoon.
The collision reportedly occurred shortly before 17 p.m. near Teano (Caserta province): a heavy vehicle collided with a tanker carrying LPG. The impact caused the cargo to catch fire, and during the rescue operation, the tanker exploded, causing damage to the roadway.
Firefighters, traffic police, and personnel from the Cassino Section of Autostrade per l'Italia responded to the scene. The area has been secured, and no injuries have been reported at this time. As a precaution, the affected area, including two service stations in the affected area, has been evacuated.
Regarding traffic, there is approximately a 6 km tailback at the mandatory exit at Caianello for vehicles heading towards Naples, and 6 km of delays between Santa Maria Capua Vetere and Capua heading towards Rome. Passengers coming from Rome and heading towards Naples are advised to exit at Cassino, continue on ordinary roads, and rejoin the A1 at the Capua station.
For long-distance travel, an alternative route is suggested from Rome to Naples: A24 Rome–Teramo towards Pescara, then A25 Torano–Pescara to the A14 towards Bari and, near Canosa, A16 Naples–Canosa towards Naples. Meanwhile, operations to extinguish the remaining fires and ensure complete safety are continuing with multiple teams and fire trucks.

This is one of the many consequences of the Nord Stream sabotage, and we even send billions to the thieves who did it!
I hope the rescuers did their job well and that the evacuation went smoothly. It's sad to see such serious accidents, but life goes on, and we must remain vigilant.
I think this was a terrible event, and road safety must be a priority. Roads must be safe for all users, and situations like this should never happen again.
The accident on the A1 was very serious and caused serious problems. It's important that the authorities take measures to prevent similar situations in the future, but we hope there were no serious injuries.
