Caserta – A dramatic toll has emerged from the roads of the Caserta province over the last 48 hours.
Two separate accidents, which occurred between the capital and the Alto Casertano area, have claimed two lives, throwing entire communities into despair and leaving behind a trail of pain and still-unresolved questions about road safety.
The first tragic incident occurred in Caserta, near the recycling center. Domenico Melone, 58, a respected teacher at the Manzoni High School and a resident of nearby Casagiove, lost his life. According to initial reports, still being examined by investigators, the professor lost control of his scooter, crashing violently onto the asphalt. Despite emergency services, nothing could be done for the man.

The news of the passing of "Mimmo," as he was affectionately known to colleagues and students, has profoundly shaken the school environment. The words of Manzoni Principal Adele Vairo were touching, as she remembered him with a heartfelt message: "His smile, his gentleness, his ever-understanding and willingness to question himself will be greatly missed by all." The principal then expressed her sympathy to the teacher's wife and children, emphasizing the irreplaceable void left by a figure who was always available and present.
Moving to the Upper Caserta area, the Casilina state road was the scene of the second fatal accident. Antonio De Bellis, a 65-year-old resident of Galluccio, lost his life yesterday evening in the municipalities of Tora and Piccilli. His small car, a Fiat 600, collided violently with a BMW driven by another man.
The impact was devastating. De Bellis was trapped in the twisted metal of the passenger compartment, requiring emergency intervention by firefighters to extract him. Unfortunately, the injuries sustained in the crash proved fatal, and the 65-year-old's heart stopped beating shortly after he was freed. Law enforcement is now working to reconstruct the exact circumstances of the crash and determine any culprits.

It's truly sad to hear of such serious accidents happening on our roads. Safety should be the priority, but apparently that's not the case. We hope the authorities take stricter measures to prevent these events.
