Ercolano – An illegal warehouse of 500 square meters transformed into an illegal dump for used clothes: this is what the financial police of the Portici Company, coordinated by the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Naples, as part of the strengthened controls ordered by Prefect Michele di Bari to combat fires and illegal waste management in the Vesuvian area.
Over 65 tons of non-hazardous textile waste and approximately 1 ton of plastic were seized inside the factory, stacked in bales ready to be resold on parallel circuits without any sanitization, disinfection, or traceability.
Metal baskets, containers, workbenches, and two professional scales were also found. The activity, completely unknown to the tax authorities and lacking any environmental permit, posed a serious safety hazard: the warehouse lacked the required fire prevention system, despite the presence of large quantities of highly flammable material.
To make matters worse, the external Enel meter had been tampered with due to an illegal connection to the electricity grid. The person responsible, a 50-year-old Italian man already known to law enforcement, was reported to the Naples Prosecutor's Office for illegal waste management, violations of fire safety regulations, and aggravated electricity theft.
The warehouse and the entire load of waste have been seized. The Guardia di Finanza continues its relentless efforts to clear the Vesuvian area of illegal trafficking that threatens the environment and public health.
