An anti-drug operation launched by unsuspecting drug dealers ended with a discovery that goes beyond drug dealing. In Ercolano, Carabinieri officers from the Torre del Greco branch arrested a 46-year-old woman with no criminal record and resident in the city. She was found in possession of a large quantity of hashish hidden in her home on Via Acampora.

During the search, officers found 13 kilos of hashish, divided into 128 blocks, hidden inside a bag in the attic. This shipment was intended for drug dealing, which led to the immediate arrest of the woman, who until then had no criminal record and therefore did not fit the typical profile of a drug dealer.

The Carabinieri's investigations, however, didn't stop at that apartment. The searches were extended to other homes in the area, leading to the filing of a report against a 34-year-old man from Ponticelli. €13 in cash and a precision scale were found in the man's home, evidence believed to be consistent with drug dealing.

During the operations, another strand of the problem emerged, completely different but equally significant from a criminal and environmental perspective. In a private courtyard, the military noted the presence of numerous tortoises, necessitating the intervention of the Carabinieri Forestry Corps of the Park Unit. The checks resulted in the seizure of 27 specimens, including 26 tortoises of the protected species Testudo hermanni and one Testudo graeca.

A married couple was reported for illegally keeping animals. This unexpected outcome broadened the scope of the operation, revealing how drug trafficking and environmental violations intertwine in just a few isolated areas.
