Frattamaggiore – Yet another episode of predatory crime along the Asse Mediano, a thoroughfare that continues to be a hub for illicit trafficking and armed raids, could have turned tragic. A wild afternoon, starting with a failed checkpoint and ending with a violent crash in the center of town, led to the arrest of an 18-year-old from Arzano, already known to law enforcement, who was taken into custody after a violent struggle.

It all began yesterday afternoon, as part of the extraordinary anti-robbery operations deployed by the Naples Police Headquarters to secure the road connecting the northern area to the capital. Officers from the Frattamaggiore Police Station, near the Aversa-Melito junction, intercepted a suspicious vehicle. Two men were inside, their faces covered, presumably ready to strike.

At the sight of the police car, instead of stopping at a checkpoint, the driver hits the accelerator. A thrilling chase ensues, worthy of a movie scene, unfolding for miles, with reckless maneuvers and slaloms through traffic, endangering the safety of other motorists.

The chase ends on Via Vittorio Veneto in Frattamaggiore. The fugitives, now hunted and with no way out, try everything: the criminals' car first violently impacts several passing vehicles and then rams the police car itself while attempting to clear a path. The impact is forceful, but it doesn't stop the officers from pursuing them. The two occupants abandon the partially wrecked vehicle and attempt to flee on foot through the terrified passersby.

It was at this juncture that the joint operation began, with the support of colleagues from the Afragola Police Station who had arrived to assist. The officers managed to catch up with one of the two fugitives. A fierce struggle ensued: the young man, later identified as the 18-year-old from Arzano, put up a determined resistance, kicking and threatening to kill the officers even after being loaded into the patrol car.

A search of the abandoned vehicle revealed the couple's intentions: inside, they found a replica pistol, missing the legally required red cap, perfect for simulating a credible armed threat during a robbery. The weapon was seized.

The 18-year-old now faces a long list of charges: threats, aggravated damage to public property, assault, and resisting a public official. The manhunt for the accomplice, who managed to escape in the chaos that followed the incident, remains ongoing.
