NAPLES - "Bagnoli is our big gamble for the future. A lot of work is underway. Mayor Manfredi, also as Commissioner, is accelerating all the work, and I agree with him when he says we need to give the beach and the sea back to the citizens." With these words, the new president of the Campania Region, Roberto Fico, emphasized the importance of regenerating the Bagnoli-Coroglio area, during a meeting with journalists on the sidelines of his inauguration at the Palace of Justice in Naples.
Fico designated the redevelopment of the SIN as one of the priorities of his term, on the very day the central pier of the former Italsider factory was removed, a symbolic gesture marking the concrete start of the reclamation and development works. Responding to reporters' questions about past tensions between Vincenzo De Luca and Mayor Manfredi regarding the reclamation of the area, slated to host the America's Cup in 2027, Fico expressed his appreciation for the work of the government commissioner and mayor: "He's accelerating the completion of the works," he explained, "and I agree with everything he says. We must give the beach and the sea back to the citizens."
Bagnoli's redevelopment project thus becomes a symbol of the city's new era of interventions, including public works, land reclamation, and coastal reclamation, with the goal of making areas still a symbol of industrial decay accessible to all Neapolitans.
