The new president: "We're working on it." The main objective: streamlining the Public Administration. For the Internal Areas, a streamlined "organizational unit" is being considered, replacing the department.

Naples - There's no immediate clear cut regarding the composition of the new regional government. A week after taking office, the new president of the Campania Region, Roberto Fico, is still keeping his cards close to his chest regarding the names of the councilors, but he reveals his initial strategy: to work first on the administrative machinery.

From his first press conference at Palazzo Santa Lucia, on the sidelines of the presentation of the agreement for the Autism Center of Avellino, Fico responded cautiously and pragmatically to the question about the government team.

We're working on it. As I've said recently, my main job this week has been to come here to the Region and begin meeting with all the directorates-general. I'll continue to talk to them because public administration is a strategic asset aimed at achieving the best results for businesses, families, and individuals in need. When public administration works well, public services function optimally.

The Five Star Movement president, therefore, confirms that he has dedicated his first days at the helm to a thorough "internal reconnaissance" of the regional corridors and offices. This approach appears to prioritize bureaucratic efficiency over the political rush to close cabinet positions.

Internal Areas, Organizational Unit instead of the Department

One of the most interesting developments concerns the management of Internal Areas, a crucial issue for the territorial balance of Campania. To the idea of a dedicated department, Fico responded with a solution that focuses on operational speed:

"Let's see what the best practice is to achieve the best outcome on this issue, perhaps an organizational unit that tries to work in a certain way to address certain situations more quickly with respect to transportation and healthcare."

This formula would suggest an ad hoc body or task force under the direct supervision of the Presidency, designed to bypass the potential slowness of traditional departmental structures and provide more immediate responses to key emergencies such as transportation and healthcare in non-metropolitan provinces. A move that, if confirmed, would signal Fico's willingness to personally manage the strategic development of the most peripheral territories.

The message from Palazzo Santa Lucia is clear: the political structure of the Council will be established only after laying the foundations for an administration that "functions at its best."
