A quick theft, completed in a matter of moments, ended with an arrest. It happened in Forio d'Ischia, where Carabinieri from the Ischia Company arrested Giancarlo Giglio, a 63-year-old from San Gennaro Vesuviano, already known to law enforcement, on charges of theft by sleight of hand.

The victim, a 28-year-old tourist from the Dominican Republic, was sitting at a table in a bar on Via Castellaccio with some friends. While the women were having a drink, the man approached in a seemingly harmless manner and, taking advantage of a moment of distraction, grabbed the woman's bag from the back of her chair, then walked away.

The 28-year-old woman realized the theft almost immediately and saw the thief flee. Undaunted, she followed him and contacted 112, providing precise directions to the police. Within minutes, a patrol reached the area, detaining the 63-year-old and recovering the bag containing documents and credit cards. However, the cash was missing, according to the victim.

The man was arrested. The judge handed down an eight-month suspended prison sentence. This incident confirms how attentive victims and prompt law enforcement intervention can make a difference even in the most rapid of robberies.

The incident described is truly significant, but it's not the first time a theft like this has occurred. Law enforcement should do more to prevent these incidents and protect tourists visiting our cities.
