In Salerno, the night was shattered by a violent and botched attempted robbery. Shortly after 3:00 a.m., a group of criminals rammed a stolen van through the windows of the Banca di Credito Cooperativo Campania Centro on Via Silvio Baratta, turning the vehicle into a battering ram to reach the ATM outside. Their goal was to break open the ATM and steal the cash, but the maneuver was interrupted by the intervention of Carabinieri from the provincial command, who quickly arrived on the scene following a call to 112.
The military secured the area and launched an investigation, gathering initial evidence and gathering useful information to reconstruct the attack. The van, abandoned in front of the bank, was found to be stolen. The gang members, who fled before patrols arrived, are still being identified. This incident highlights the increasingly brutal targeting of ATMs at night.
