A large-scale Carabinieri operation against illegal online gambling began at dawn in the provinces of Salerno, Naples, and Foggia. Officers from the Salerno Investigative Unit, supported by local units of the Carabinieri, are executing a detailed order issued by the investigating judge of the Salerno Court at the request of the Salerno District Anti-Mafia Directorate.
The decree provides for personal and real precautionary measures against numerous suspects, charged—on various counts—with criminal conspiracy aimed at the unauthorized operation of gaming and betting activities, money laundering, self-laundering, fraudulent transfer of assets, and issuing invoices for non-existent transactions. The aggravating circumstance of facilitating mafia-type organizations is also contested, a factor that lends further weight to the investigation.
The operation involves specialized units of the Carabinieri: two teams from the Salerno First Response Units, the VII Helicopter Unit from Pontecagnano for air support and the Sarno Canine Unit for search activities.
A massive operation, deployed to carry out a series of seizures and searches linked to the alleged criminal network that, according to investigators, ran a lucrative illegal betting business through unauthorized platforms.
