Fear returns to the Vesuvius area after a night marked by the roar of explosions. Once again, banks and post offices are in the criminal spotlight, targeted using the unscrupulous "marmot" technique.
A double raid, which took place a few kilometers apart, suggests the coordinated action of a single gang of criminals.
The Marigliano coup
The first alarm went off on Via Vivaldi in Marigliano. Here, a commando of unknown assailants stormed the Post Office ATM. The technique used was the infamous explosive saturation: the "marmot" inserted into the dispenser triggered a violent explosion that ripped apart the armored structure.
In this case, the criminals didn't just take the banknotes: with a quick and destructive action, they managed to uproot and steal the entire ATM device, probably loading it onto a heavy vehicle before disappearing into the darkness.
The failed coup at Pomigliano
Shortly afterward, or perhaps in a timeline still being examined by investigators, the scene moved to nearby Pomigliano d'Arco. The target was the Crédit Agricole branch in Piazza Sant'Agnese. Here, too, residents were awakened by the sound of an explosion.
The bandits attempted to replicate the Marigliano scenario, blowing up the ATM, but something went wrong. Despite extensive damage to the structure, the thieves were unable to remove the ATM or access the cash register, forced to flee empty-handed, perhaps disturbed by the arrival of law enforcement or the institution's security systems.
The investigations
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the damage to the buildings is extensive and still being assessed. The Carabinieri Operations Unit and Investigative Unit of Castello di Cisterna are currently investigating the double incident.
The military has already begun technical surveys to isolate any traces left by the gang and is acquiring video surveillance footage from the two areas and nearby escape routes. The leading hypothesis is that the same criminal group, a specialized gang that is extensively combing the area north of Naples, was responsible.
