A fugitive for a year and a half, arrested at dawn in Gricignano: Antonio Aloia arrested, a gun on the nightstand

Gricignano d'Aversa – They found him at first light, sleeping, hiding in the apartment of a suspected supporter.

The Carabinieri of the Castello di Cisterna Investigative Unit, coordinated by the Naples District Anti-Mafia Directorate, arrested Antonio Aloia, 47, who had been on the run for about a year and a half.

According to investigators' reconstruction, Aloia disappeared in August 2024, when he failed to return to prison after completing a parole period. He was detained for Camorra-related and "mafia-related" crimes: mafia-type association, illegal possession of weapons, and continued and aggravated extortion.

The raid took place at a home in Gricignano di Aversa. The Naples Carabinieri's API team also assisted in the operation. During the search, officers reported, a pistol with one round in the chamber was found on the bedside table.

In addition to the 47-year-old, the Carabinieri also arrested the 45-year-old who allegedly hosted him, accused of aiding and abetting. Once the formalities are completed, Aloia will be transferred to prison.

The arrest is part of the end-of-year report on the fight against fugitives: with Aloia, the number of wanted individuals captured in 2025 by the Naples Provincial Carabinieri Command rises to 23, just hours after another major operation that culminated yesterday with the capture of mafia boss Ciro Andolfi.

Aloia has a remaining sentence of 27 years and 3 months remaining: his detention, barring legal benefits, would have ended in 2030. This is not his first time as a fugitive: he was arrested about twenty years ago while evading capture. He is also the brother of Andrea Aloia, who was arrested by the Carabinieri in October 2023 after a period of abscondence.
