Rome – Work can no longer ignore vulnerability. And vulnerability cannot remain marginalized within the productive system. From this awareness, the Parliamentary Intergroup "Work and Fragility" was born, presented today in the Chamber of Deputies with the aim of developing concrete policies for those living with disabilities, chronic conditions, or rare diseases.

Not just a discussion forum, but a permanent legislative space that brings together Parliament, patient associations, the scientific community, and the business world.

"The challenge of vulnerability doesn't just concern healthcare but also affects the heart of the labor system, national productivity, and social cohesion," explained the Honorable Silvio Giovine, promoter of the initiative and member of the Labor Commission.

The Intergroup brings together bipartisan representatives from the House and Senate with the ambition of translating into law what is now a pressing issue for millions of citizens: from workplace inclusion to organizational well-being, from the protection of rights to the prevention of discrimination.

The Anmar project that measures the economic impact

'Fit for Work 2.0', a study promoted by ANMAR (National Association of Rheumatic Diseases) was presented at the same venue. This study updates the 2012 research on the impact of musculoskeletal disorders on the workplace. More than ten years later, with an aging population, new ways of working, and widespread digital tools, a current picture of the impact of these diseases on productivity, businesses, and welfare is needed.

"The data allows us to guarantee adequate and personalized care, ensuring full working citizenship for every vulnerable person," emphasized Silvia Tonolo, president of ANMAR. The project will provide concrete evidence to policymakers, social security agencies, and healthcare institutions to design tailored measures for vulnerable workers.

From dialogue to legislative action

The synergy between the Intergroup and the scientific study creates a new model of collaboration. On one side, policymakers recognize the urgency of a dedicated institutional approach; on the other, a project offers measurable tools to address the challenge. "We want patients and institutions to walk together," Tonolo reiterated.

The ultimate goal is to ensure vulnerable people not only healthcare protection, but also genuine professional inclusion and full participation in the country's economic life. Because the increase in chronic conditions and the changing labor market require modern responses that can no longer be postponed.
