Catanzaro – A major anti-counterfeiting operation by the Catanzaro Financial Police led to the seizure of hundreds of counterfeit jerseys and kits from well-known football teams. A local merchant has been reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office for running an online store selling illegal sportswear.
The Catanzaro Group's financial police identified the illegal activity through intensive online and social media monitoring. The investigations allowed them to reconstruct the entire commercial chain, uncovering a genuine e-commerce site managed by a Catanzaro-based entrepreneur.
The searches, coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office, resulted in the seizure of numerous items of counterfeit sportswear. The items faithfully reproduced the jerseys of Italian and foreign teams, bearing counterfeit trademarks of major brands such as Adidas, Nike, and Puma. The operation also confirmed violations of the image rights of clubs registered in the Serie A football league.
During the searches, investigators also found 294 iron-on stickers ready to be applied to the jerseys. These contained the numbers and surnames of well-known Italian national team players, further evidence of a commercial organization aimed at exploiting the sports collectibles market.
The merchant will now face charges of counterfeiting and intellectual property rights infringement. The operation confirms law enforcement's focus on illegal online trade in counterfeit products.
