Benevento – The Guardia di Finanza (Italian Financial Police) has made a major breakthrough against the illegal sale of fireworks in the capital of Sannio. The Benevento Group's Mobile Unit seized approximately 23 kilograms of explosives, equivalent to over 2.400 pyrotechnic devices, from a store specializing in household goods. The operation was triggered during a routine check aimed at combating illicit trafficking.
Inside the store, which was open to the public, officers discovered approximately 1.300 fireworks displayed on the shelves, in direct contact with highly flammable products such as paper and plastic, creating a gravely dangerous situation. Suspicious, the finance police extended their inspection to an adjacent warehouse, where they found another 1.100 pieces.
The owner was unable to produce the required public safety license for the possession and sale of pyrotechnic materials, rendering the entire shipment illegal. The man was reported to the Benevento Public Prosecutor's Office for illegal trade in explosives and unauthorized sale. All the material was seized and handed over to a specialized company for safe destruction.
The operation is part of a broader territorial control effort by the Sannio Guardia di Finanza (Fiamme Gialle), intensified as the Christmas and New Year holidays approach. The primary objective is to crack down on the sale of unsafe firecrackers, protect consumers, and prevent accidents related to the improper use of these devices, which often cause serious injuries during celebrations.
