Naples. "Scudetto, Serie A's best player, Scotland back in the World Cup. It's a huge moment, but I don't feel like I've arrived. In fact, I'm even more demanding of myself now. Defending success is harder than achieving it, but the goal is to continue to grow." Scott McTominay recounts his golden moment to CBS's "Sports Golazo," with words that paint the image of a hungry, never-satisfied leader.
“It's surreal. The fans' love is incredible, so I rarely go out into the city, but my routine is simple. Here in Italy, the food is better and the climate is good for life,” says the Scot, speaking of his daily life in Naples. “At work, I'm obsessed with recovery. I take ice baths, red light treatments, and cold rooms. I do it because I want to stay healthy and play for another ten years.”
Words of great admiration also went to Antonio Conte. "I adore him, he's pure passion, tactically extraordinary. I don't need caresses, but someone who always pushes me." A relationship based on intensity and constant demands, perfectly in line with the Italian midfielder's mentality.
McTominay then returns to his departure from Manchester United. "In my last year in Manchester, I scored ten goals and we won a cup. You can't say I wasn't doing well. When you play at United, you're constantly scrutinized and everything seems magnified. But there, you have to earn your minutes, like Bruno Fernandes did." He adds: "In Manchester, they gave me everything: nutrition, training, tactical support. The conditions for success were there, but if you always play, score, and hear good things about yourself, everything becomes more natural."
I'll close with a light note on the Italian language. "It's not perfect, but I'm trying. I can say a few sentences after games, I'm studying and improving. Once, after the Scudetto, I spoke with a gardener for 25 minutes only in Italian."
