Melito – An evening of normal traffic on the outer ring road quickly turned into a war zone. A dramatic accident, which occurred late yesterday evening, involved three vehicles and left eight people injured, including four minors who experienced moments of pure terror.

According to an initial reconstruction of events, still being examined by investigators and subject to further investigation, the pileup was apparently triggered by a van. For reasons yet to be clarified, the driver of the heavy vehicle struck a car parked on the roadway.

Inside the passenger compartment was a woman with her two children, aged 8 and 13.

The impact was so violent that it overturned the stationary car, which, in its uncontrolled course, crashed into a third vehicle. This second vehicle also contained an entire family: a couple with two children, aged 7 and 9. The scene that first responders saw was dramatic, with crumpled metal and the screams of the trapped passengers.

Carabinieri from the Giugliano in Campania Mobile Radio Unit, responsible for the Melito area, responded promptly to the scene, securing the area and initiating the technical investigations necessary to establish responsibility. Emergency personnel coordinated the transfer of the numerous injured to various local hospitals.

The driver of the van was transported to the emergency room of the Santa Maria delle Grazie hospital in Pozzuoli with a yellow status. The situation is more delicate for the four minors, all of whom were transferred with an orange status to the Santobono pediatric hospital in Naples due to injuries sustained in the double crash.

The two mothers, however, were admitted to Giugliano Hospital, one with an orange code and the other with a blue code. Fortunately, despite the terrifying incident and the serious injuries sustained, none of the victims are currently in danger of dying.

As is standard practice in accidents of this severity, the Carabinieri ordered the seizure of all vehicles involved to allow for further technical assessments. It now remains to be seen whether the van's erroneous maneuver was caused by distraction, illness, or high speed on a stretch of road that is often the scene of serious accidents.
