Melito di Napoli – It was supposed to be a discussion about party planning, about the joy of a little girl torn between her mother and father on Christmas Day. It turned into an afternoon of criminal frenzy, culminating on the asphalt in front of a law enforcement rally.
A 19-year-old man from Giugliano in Campania was arrested by the Carabinieri on a serious charge of attempted murder after deliberately running over his in-laws, who were "guilty" of interfering in their niece's affairs.
The story begins in the late afternoon, when a violent altercation erupts between the 19-year-old and his ex-partner. At the heart of the dispute is the visitation schedule for the upcoming Christmas holidays: an impossible agreement quickly escalates.
The girl's parents also joined the discussion, attempting to mediate and calm their young son-in-law's anger. Their attempt failed, triggering a disproportionate reaction: the 19-year-old ordered them not to interfere, issuing serious death threats.

Frightened by the boy's verbal ferocity, the two grandparents decide not to let it go and head to the Carabinieri station in Melito to file a report. Unaware, however, that they are being followed. Their son-in-law, sensing their intentions, gets behind the wheel and follows them to the entrance of the station. There, he waits. A calm and calm stakeout, lasting just long enough to draft and sign the report.
The ambush outside the barracks
The attack occurs as soon as the couple enters the exit gate. Seeing his in-laws on the street, the 19-year-old puts the car in gear and slams the accelerator, aiming for them and hitting them head-on. The impact is violent: the husband and wife are thrown into the air, landing heavily on the ground, while the driver flees without looking back.
Rescue efforts were immediate, first provided by stunned passersby and then by the Carabinieri themselves, who rushed out after hearing the crash. The victims were rushed to the hospital; despite their injuries and shock, doctors ruled out any life-threatening injuries.
The young hit-and-run driver's escape was short-lived. Carabinieri officers from the Melito station, having reconstructed the incident and knowing the identity of the attacker, tracked him down shortly thereafter at his home in Giugliano. He was arrested and transferred to prison, where he will now face charges of attempted murder pending a validation hearing.

The situation is truly tragic and makes you think about how things can escalate in such a short time. I don't understand how a young man could get to this point. Running over his in-laws seems like an overreaction to a simple family conflict. It's sad.
